Somehow I'm still around.

27 February 2008

Amazingly, it's only been four months since my last update. Funny how it seems not too much has happened since I was teaching in sixth grade. In reality, more has happened then I have time to waste repeating. In general though, second grade went well. I think that I found my niche in sixth grade. Nonetheless, I enjoyed second grade. I graduated in December, and I pretty much did nothing till I got a job at Belk and substituting went through in late January/early February. Well, I was looking for a job during that time.
I went the longest time without working then I have since my first day at good ole Burger King. It was a strange new thing, and yet it was something I grew tired of more quickly than one would think. Perhaps it was because of my lack of funds and the necessity of having a job for income and not finding one. I learned a lot! I mean, more than I think I learned in college. I learned how ridiculous our lives are when they are consumed by money. It's even more ridiculous when you really aren't concerned about having a six digit income, and all you need is something to be able to pay the bills. Obviously I didn't go into teaching for the money. (Ha! At my recent job interviews with local school systems, one of the most frequent questions was why did I choose teaching/what drew me to teaching. Every time, in the back of my mind, I laughed sarcastically and thought, "The money!") But when you don't even have a one, two, or three digit income, it's disgusting how centered on money your thoughts are.
Enough! I'm tired of talking about something that consumed my life for too long. Long story short: I now have five jobs. Subbing, Belk, tutoring, cleaning and assisting an elderly lady all consume my waking hours. Going from zero hours of work to over fifty some weeks drains me, but I'm surviving so far.
In other news...I have a new kitten. I've named him Paka. Paka is Swahili for cat. He's a doll. Always cute, usually clean, and often providing entertainment, he's been fun to have around. Rockie has adjusted for the most part. All roomies have accepted and fallen in love with him (one in particular who wasn't a fan of cats before). He's just hopped up on my lap and walked across my desk for the third or fourth time. What else are cats for?
More news: I don't really have any! Sometimes I'm grateful for being done with college and not having graduation hanging over my head. Graduating in December can be mild and uneventful, so sometimes I have to remind myself that I am done, done, done. I guess that loan payments make the idea hit home a lot quicker.
I think that's enough for one night. Perhaps now that I'm done with school and free as a bird (cough, cough), I'll update more than once every four months? We'll see...
